Millerton Art

Nordic contemporary art BY Sarah Millerton

Swedish artist living in Copenhagen. More influenced toward a personal visual exploration of Scandinavian arts in general. Music, design, light and nature are all found in the paintings I make. My concerns are toward a tradition of making things in a necessary perspective, a highly Nordic expression through a tradition of hand making.

Inspired by japan

Ikigai 生き甲斐 is a concept I’m exploring. It means something that gives a person a sense of purpose, a reason for being. My art gives me a sense of purpose and my mind paints all the time, when I sleep, when I walk, when I see an inspiring colour combination.

My challenge as an artist is moving from the intuitive to a different sense of awareness where I reflect and create in sync.

A feeling of ease

My paintings are created to invoke a feeling od´f ease, of fluidity and not to necessarily provoke. If my collectors feel welcome and a feeling of ease, of feeling at home when they are greeted by the paiting, I consider it a success.

My motivation is based on elevated high notes of fine art - but more importantly the base notes of craft, applied arts and design purpose built utilitarianism.

My paintings currently live in San Francisco, NYC, Seattle, Helsinki, oslo, stockholm, London, Milan and many more places.

Inspiration

I get inspired from travels, colour, food, scents… A recent trip to Morocco brought dreams of deserts and a mini-series of painings depicting the landscape and people.
